Designing A type Of my Very own.

Creating my own typeface has always been a dream of mine, but it was something that I never really had the chance to sit down and do. While working on my personal logo for this book, I decided that the custom hand drown type that I created for it would make a great typeface. And so the journey began, I decided to create an entire type-system based on my logotype.

I wanted to create a typeface that was contemporary, quirky, flexible, and looked great as a headline or on a poster. I decided that a nice slab serif would be a great basis for a typeface, but I also wanted it to have its own character and quirks. I looked to the absolutely wonderful Archer typeface by Hoefler & Frere-Jones for inspiration. The unique mix of regular slab serifs, with round serifs and its overall unique composition was what I wanted to reference in my typeface.

I also wanted to have a strong, condensed presence and proportion with the typeface. I used Alternate Gothic as a reference and inspiration for the proportions used in my typeface. My typeface would attempt to mix these two very different typefaces, while adding a lot of my own personal style and sensibilities.
